Ingredients

For the Baklava

  • 24 sheets Phyllo Dough Make sure to thaw properly.

For the Syrup

  • 1 stick Cinnamon Stick Infuses flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Prepare Nut Filling: Blend chopped nuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until combined. Set aside.
  • Butter Baking Dish: Coat a 9x13 inch dish with melted butter.
  • Layer Phyllo Dough: Place 1 sheet of phyllo in the dish, trim excess, brush with butter and repeat for 10 sheets.
  • Add Nut Mixture: Sprinkle ¾ cup of nut filling over phyllo layers.
  • Continue Layering: Alternate phyllo sheets and nut filling until ingredients are used, finishing with 10 buttered phyllo sheets.
  • Chill and Bake: Freeze for 20 mins, bake at 325°F for 60-75 mins until golden.
  • Make Syrup: Boil water, sugar, lemon slice, lemon juice, cinnamon stick, and clove for 10 mins. Stir in honey and optional vanilla.
  • Combine and Cool: Pour syrup over baklava once out of the oven, cool uncovered for 4-6 hours.

Notes

For an extra touch, serve with crushed pistachios sprinkled on top before serving. Keep phyllo covered with a damp towel while working.
