Preparation
Prepare Nut Filling: Blend chopped nuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt until combined. Set aside.
Butter Baking Dish: Coat a 9x13 inch dish with melted butter.
Layer Phyllo Dough: Place 1 sheet of phyllo in the dish, trim excess, brush with butter and repeat for 10 sheets.
Add Nut Mixture: Sprinkle ¾ cup of nut filling over phyllo layers.
Continue Layering: Alternate phyllo sheets and nut filling until ingredients are used, finishing with 10 buttered phyllo sheets.
Chill and Bake: Freeze for 20 mins, bake at 325°F for 60-75 mins until golden.
Make Syrup: Boil water, sugar, lemon slice, lemon juice, cinnamon stick, and clove for 10 mins. Stir in honey and optional vanilla.
Combine and Cool: Pour syrup over baklava once out of the oven, cool uncovered for 4-6 hours.
Notes
For an extra touch, serve with crushed pistachios sprinkled on top before serving. Keep phyllo covered with a damp towel while working.
