Equipment

  • Large Pot
  • Large skillet
  • Spatula

Ingredients

For the Stroganoff

  • 1 pound Ground Beef Lean ground beef is preferred.
  • 8 ounces Egg Noodles Use whole grain for added fiber.
  • 1 cup Milk Can substitute with plant-based milk.
  • 2 cups Chicken Broth Vegetable broth works for a meat-free option.
  • 1 cup Sour Cream Greek yogurt can be a lighter alternative.
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Olive oil can be used instead.
  • 2 tablespoons Flour Can use gluten-free flour if needed.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust based on broth saltiness.
  • 1 teaspoon Coarse Black Pepper Freshly ground provides more flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Fresh garlic enhances flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Sautéed fresh onions can be used.

Instructions

Cooking Steps

  • Boil a large pot of salted water. Add the egg noodles and cook until al dente, about 7-8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it up as it cooks. Brown for about 6-8 minutes, ensuring it’s fully cooked. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Once melted, add flour and whisk for about 2 minutes to create a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in the chicken broth and stir to avoid lumps. Cook for 3-4 minutes until sauce thickens. Slowly mix in the milk, continuing to stir until it thickens again, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Sprinkle in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine and adjust spices to taste.
  • Lower heat and add cooked noodles and browned beef back into the skillet. Stir gently until heated through and well coated with sauce.
  • Remove from heat and gently fold in the sour cream until fully incorporated. Serve hot.

Notes

For added flavor, consider garnishing with fresh parsley. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge.
