How to Make Delicious Easy Puff Pastry Bats
Thaw Puff Pastry: Allow the puff pastry to sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Roll Out Pastry: On a clean, lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry to achieve an even thickness of about 1/8 inch.
Cut Bat Shapes: Using bat-shaped cookie cutters, cut out shapes from the rolled-out pastry. Remember to create an even number of bats for pairing.
Create Windows: Carefully cut inner shapes from half of these bat pieces to create whimsical 'windows' that reveal the jam filling.
Assemble Bats: Place the uncut bat shapes onto your prepared baking sheet. Brush them gently with the beaten egg wash, then layer the cut-out pieces on top.
Bake: Brush the tops with more egg wash and bake in your preheated oven for 12 minutes or until they are puffed and golden brown.
Finish: Once baked, gently press down the centers with a spoon to form pockets for your filling. Dust the tops with powdered sugar.
Notes
Serve warm for best taste experience. Enjoy freshly baked bats the same day for optimal flavor.
