Instructions

How to Make Creamy Delicious Scalloped Potatoes

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.
  • In a skillet, melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter over medium heat. Whisk in 1/4 cup of all-purpose flour until smooth, then gradually add 2 cups of whole milk and 1 cup of vegetable broth, stirring until thickened for 2-3 minutes. Add garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the greased dish. Top with half the onions, half the creamy sauce, and 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese.
  • Add the remaining sliced potatoes, followed by the rest of the onions and sauce. Finish with 1/2 cup of grated cheddar cheese on top.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and continue baking for an additional 35-40 minutes until the top is golden brown and potatoes are tender.
  • Allow to rest for 20 minutes before serving to let the layers firm up.
